Fun Art for the Seasons
I really like to change things around a lot from season to season, and that's why I don't like to spend a whole lot on accent art. So I was just tickled pink when I found the website, Vintage Printable. It's a website filled with high-resolution vintage prints that are in the public domain, and you can print them for free. Oh goodness, I've had fun on this site.
But first - isn't this the cutest couple?
They came in my frame, and I was so tempted to just leave them in there. Something about them is just so adorable. But I'm gonna take them out for now.
The first thing I did on Vintage Printable was head to the Seasonal section for something fall-ish. I found some cute stuff, but I didn't really find anything autumn-related there.
So I went to the Animal category, and chose Birds. I found all sorts of lovely vintage prints I liked. Like this fun rooster. All I had to do was print him out on cardstock, trim him up a little, and put him on some fall-colored scrapbook paper (I just attached it with scrapbook adhesive dots) and into a black frame. (There are a couple of other printable roosters in case you want a set!)
(If you look really closely, you'll see my trimming skills are a little off today!)
Then I found this fall bird's nest. I just love it, with the little fall leaf curled up, and the soft feathers sticking up and illustrations of eggs in the right corner. I printed it out on some cream-colored cardstock, trimmed it up a little, then put it on some pretty cream and gold-embellished scrapbook paper that looks and feels a little like parchment. Then I just put it in the same black frame to see how it would look.
I printed out this little tiny nest, too, then trimmed it and framed it.
In the Bird section, there are egg prints as well as nest prints. This nest with blue eggs would look so pretty for spring. You could print it on some white or cream cardstock, then mat it on some light blue scrapbook paper, and frame it in a white or cream frame.
These little chipmunks looked fall-ish to me, too. (Sorry it's blurry - my cutting skills have rubbed of on my picture-taking.)
Oh, there are so many other options, too!
Vintage Santa Clause prints, cats in fall colors, and butterflies are just a few of the things you could frame. If you find some you like, you can choose from all sorts of plants to frame.
A few things you'll want to keep in mind when printing these gorgeous vintage prints:
* It looks like a lot of them were scanned from old books. So on some of the photos, you'll see the edge of the page (usually on the right side) or it might be a little crooked when you print it out. So you might have to do a little trimming before you frame it.
*Use your print preview to see how big they will print out. You might want to adjust the size of the print, depending on how big your frame or project is.
*The last thing is that although printing just a few photos won't use up your colored ink, if you print a lot it might put a serious dent in your colored ink cartridge! I printed out just a few, and it didn't use up a whole lot of ink, though. You can look at the photo and sort of tell how much ink it will use - if it has tons of colors, or a large, colored background, it will use more.
I hope you enjoy these! Which print is your favorite?
